To avoid accidental activation of the helipad deluge fire suppression system, it is recommended not to land or hover facing East or West on the pad.
**Backup Helicopter Landing Site**
GCUH has an agreement with the Southport Flying Club Inc. to use Mason Field, the Club’s aerodrome at Coombabah, as a backup HLS during a Code Yellow – HLS Outage, and the primary HLS is inoperable.
If the GCUH HLS becomes inoperable and closed by the HLS Controller, the HLS Controller will:
• Advise the ED CNC, who will advise RSQ of the closure
• Advise the GCUH Incident Controller, who will request Switchboard to issue a “Code Yellow – HLS Outage consider the need to activate the backup HLS. 3.9.3. The process for activating the Backup HLS is listed in the GCUH HLS Operations Manual (PRO1157).
If the backup HLS is activated, the GCUH Incident Controller will advise the ED CNC, who will advise RSQ accordingly and liaise with QAS to ensure an ambulance vehicle is present to receive and transport the patient.
